**Who We Are:** **North Alabama Shoals Hospital** is a 198-bed general acute care facility boasting spacious, private rooms for all patients, a 24-hour emergency department, medical and oncology services; medical/surgical inpatient units; and short-stay surgery units. Shoals also operates the region’s only in-patient acute rehabilitation facility, the J. W. Sommer Rehabilitation Unit, and the Shoals Senior Care Center, the Shoals’ only psychiatric unit dedicated to our senior adults.

**Position Summary:**

A **Medical Laboratory Technician** (MLT) Performs routine laboratory tests in various sections of the laboratory. Reports to the Director of Laboratory Services.

### Essential Functions

- Performs common testing procedures and reports test results accurately.
- Conducts instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Performs quality control testing to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Maintains supplies and equipment necessary for testing.
- Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Patient Populations Served: Does not directly treat or care for patients.

Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete Medical Record.

Exposure: Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is present for all employees.

Physical Requirements: Frequent sitting, computer/data entry, and instrument handling; occasional standing, walking, and light lifting. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards, including blood and bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.

### Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

**Education:** Associate’s Degree in Science required.

**License:** /Certifications: MLT certification through ASCP or AMT preferred.
