General Duty Sterile Processing Technician

Job description

Works under the supervision of the Manager–OR and/or Director – OR\SPD. This position is responsible for ensuring that all surgical supplies, instruments and equipment are properly inventoried, assembled, packaged, sterilized, stored, distributed and tracked in a quality/timely manner throughout the hospital and clinics. Works independently with little supervision. Performs appropriate quality control testing and record keeping as recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and troubleshoots cleaning equipment while maintaining safety standards.
  • Properly handles and stores sterile supplies, equipment, and instruments.
  • Selects appropriate sterilization methods. Knows and follows correct principles of sterilization.
  • Properly documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological test to determine the efficacy of the sterilization process.
  • Retrieves, disburses and tracks medical and surgical supplies and equipment to the customer in a quality/timely manner.
  • Cleans various Biomedical equipment for patient use.
  • Anticipates required instrument needs for cases due to surgeon and procedure preference cards.
  • Maintains work flow by putting away sterile items, retrieving items from return cart and wrapping items for sterilization.
  • Monitors the cart wash and instrument wash to keep work flow moving.
  • Answers phone and door and pull case carts as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned
Education
  • H.S. Diploma - Self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision and has great attention to detail oriented work. - Required
Work Experience
  • Responsible for maintaining continuing education requirements as needed per department requirements - Required

Travel Requirements
  • Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed. - Required
