- What does VHMA want before I can sit the exam?
4 qualifications, and the first is broader than it sounds. VHMA asks for 3 years of active employment as a practice manager within the last 7, carrying at least 26 of the 30 management duties it enumerates, alongside 18 college semester hours in management-related courses, 48 hours of management continuing education and 4 letters of recommendation.
- Is this a clinical credential?
It's the other track. The CVPM is about running the hospital, and its exam covers human resources, law and ethics, marketing, practice organization and finance, so it points at practice manager and hospital administrator postings. - Can I earn it while I'm still on the floor?
Only if the floor job carries the duties. VHMA counts 26 of its 30 management functions, so a lead technician who owns scheduling, ordering and inventory is accumulating some of them and one who mostly works appointments is not. Read the function list before counting your years.
