A physician is 1 of the 3 ways the subsection allows. The nurse can practice under the supervision of a licensed physician, or under the supervision of a supervising nurse practitioner, or be employed by a clinic or hospital that has a medical director who is a licensed physician. The third attaches a physician to the employer, and the nurse then has to be employed there. At the end of those 24 months the nurse submits written evidence to the board upon completion of the required clinical experience, which is the only paperwork the subsection asks for. All of it runs against practice, so a Maine nurse practitioner works the period through.
