A Utah nurse anesthetist prescribes inside a window tied to a procedure. The license allows up to a 5-day supply of prescription drugs, Schedule II through V controlled substances included, immediately before or immediately after a procedure performed in a health care facility, a private physician office or a dental office. Both windows carry the same 4 conditions: the drug is not ketamine, the anesthetist will participate or did participate in the procedure, a patient record has been established for the person receiving the prescription, and the drug is related to the procedure. It's one of the state's license classes, and the only advanced one the chapter puts under supervision. A nurse whose license under this chapter authorizes independent practice has to make one available when a consumer asks, covering the prices charged for their 25 most frequently performed clinic procedures or services, out-patient procedures and in-patient procedures, together with information about any discount for services not covered by insurance or for prompt payment of billed charges. The duty has run since January 1, 2011, and it's attached to the class of license, so it travels with the nurse from one employer to the next.
