Charge Nurse – Labor and Delivery/Antepartum 

Location: Baptist Health Lexington  Schedule:  Part-time, 1st Shift About Labor and Delivery: Labor and Delivery is a high risk specialized unit that provides care to pregnant individuals prior to and during labor, childbirth, and the immediate postpartum period. This unit has 17 private birthing suites, 5 Triage/PACU beds, 4 OR Rooms, 3 bed Obstetric Emergency Department care, and a specialized Antepartum unit that provides care for women with high-risk pregnancies and post-partum diagnoses needing supportive care. 

JOB OVERVIEW: 

Under the direction of Unit Director, Clinical House Supervisor, +/or Designee, provides supervision of workflow and staff for a designated shift in overseeing the efficient functioning of the department. 

Assures the provision of patient care, by addressing performance, risk management, patient, family and physician issues/concerns as appropriate. 

 Role models caring behaviors in relationships with others. 

The Charge Nurse is an exemplar for compassion, acceptance, respect and empathy honoring nursing as a distinct discipline and supporting an environment focused on healing and wellness.  

As a clinical nurse, the charge nurse spends majority of his/her time (> 50%) coordinating, ensuring and providing direct patient care activities on the unit through: provision of nursing rounds, assessments and treatments; facilitating admission, transfer and discharge activities; provision of patient and family-centered education; care coordination and individualized treatment planning as applicable, etc.  

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and Licensures Required: 

Active Kentucky RN license 

BLS, ACLS and/or other designated unit specific certification training/requirements 

Bachelor’s degree in nursing or currently actively pursuing a BSN degree. (BSN degree must be completed within 5 years of starting program) 

Minimum of one year of Registered Nurse experience.
