Advanced Practice Jobs

Advanced practice has 3 roles: nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and certified nurse midwives. All three diagnose, order tests, and prescribe.

NPs come up through nursing and certify in a population, such as family or acute care. PAs train in a medical-model graduate program as generalists and can move between specialties. In many clinics the two fill the same job.

Prenatal care, labor and delivery, and gynecologic care. CNMs are RNs with a graduate midwifery degree and national certification, attending births in hospitals and birth centers.

Depends on the state. Some grant full practice authority, others require a collaborating or supervising physician. The posting's state decides which rules apply.

Primary care and specialty clinics, hospitals, urgent care, and telehealth. Many manage their own patient panels day to day.

Telehealth has opened remote work for NPs and PAs: virtual primary care, behavioral health, and chart review among them. Those roles sit under remote, and most ask for the same state licenses a bedside job needs.
