Behavior Technician pay and benefits

In home-based work the family is in the house while the session runs, and part of the job is showing a parent what you're doing so that it carries on after you leave. Center and school placements trade that for colleagues in the building.

School placements run on the school calendar

A student's ABA hours are written into the individualized education program, so school-based work follows the district's year and stops when the term does. Federal rules make one exception: where the IEP team decides a child needs services beyond the normal school year for a free appropriate public education, the public agency provides them at no cost, and it may neither reserve them for particular disability categories nor cut the type, amount or duration on its own. Extended school year in a district posting is that provision.

Your questions about behavior technician jobs, answered

What does an ABA session look like?

Two to three hours with one client, in one of two shapes: short structured trials at a table, or the same targets built into ordinary play. Applied behavior analysis is designed to be measured that way. The hard part is holding a child's attention and recording accurately at the same time.

Are behavior technician jobs full-time?

Not always, and this is the thing to check before accepting one. Hours follow the client's authorized schedule, so after-school work clusters into the afternoon, cancellations come out of your week, and some employers pay a lower rate for drive time and admin than for billable session time. Ask how many guaranteed hours the offer carries.

Does this page cover psychiatric technician jobs too?

Yes. Employers use behavior technician, psychiatric technician and psych tech for overlapping work, and this listing catches all of them. The setting separates them in practice: behavior analysis work sits in homes, clinics and schools, while psychiatric technician postings are inpatient units alongside nursing. Check where the work happens and you know which of the two you're reading.
