One of NHA's eight exams, and where the others surface

The National Healthcareer Association runs eight accredited certification exams and the ExCPT is its pharmacy one; the same body also certifies medical assistants, phlebotomy technicians and EKG technicians. Of those three only the EKG certification has a list of its own here. The other two answer the same query their role's page answers, so they don't get pages of their own here and stay filters on that one.

Your questions about ExCPT jobs, answered

Who can sit the ExCPT?

NHA asks for a high school diploma or its equivalent, or being within 60 days of finishing one, and then either a pharmacy technician training program from an accredited or state-recognized institution, military pharmacy training included, or 1,200 hours of supervised pharmacy work experience inside any one year of the past 3. PTCB runs the same 2 shapes with a shorter experience route at 500 hours.

Can I add PTCB's specialty credentials with an ExCPT?

Not without PTCB certification first. PTCB says plainly that it doesn't transfer credentials from other organizations, so its CSPT and its assessment-based certificates start with sitting the PTCE under one of PTCB's own routes. For someone already working in a pharmacy that's an exam to book, since the experience route asks 500 hours.

Which exam will my state board take?

Check the board's own approved list before booking either one. Texas, for instance, writes the requirement without naming anybody: its rule asks for a pharmacy technician certification examination approved by the board (22 TAC 297.3(c)(1)(B)(i)), and the approved list is where PTCB's and NHA's exams appear or don't. That list is the board's to change, which is why it's worth reading it yourself rather than a school's summary of it.
