Registered Respiratory Therapist - PD

Job description

The Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for performing all procedures as required by the department job description and reviews dynamics of patient care with the physician as needed. Performs all services of Pulmonary Function and Bronchoscopy Lab as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development of a strategic plan for the pulmonary lab services to ensure growth and productivity is maintained and managed. Assists in the development of new services and programs assuring services remain current.
  • Performs arterial sticks, blood gas analysis, bronchoscopy and pulmonary function procedures.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and makes necessary revisions of all tests.
  • Represents the respiratory therapy department in communication with other departments and services in the establishment of protocols and procedures.
  • Assists in ensuring and performing proper maintenance of all lab equipment. Oversees stocking supplies and ensuring adequate levels are maintained. Ensures equipment is maintained, cleaned and kept in proper working order.
  • Assists in maintaining all clinical reports as specified by medical staff.
  • Assists in maintaining all data management programs and processes in all computer systems used in the pulmonary and bronchoscopy labs.
  • Assists with maintenance and working conditions of all clinical equipment used in the pulmonary lab.
  • Performs all pulmonary and bronchoscopy laboratory services and procedures as may be required.

Education
  • H.S. Diploma - Required
  • Associate's Degree - Graduated from an accredited respiratory therapy program approved by the NBRC, where clinical rotations were completed - Required
Work Experience
  • 2 Years - 2 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist required - Required
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - If new graduate, RRT must be obtained within 6 months of hire. - Required Upon Hire
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) - current, valid, and licensed in the state of Missouri - Required Upon Hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - must obtain within 30 days of hire - Required within 30 Days
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Must obtain within 6 months of hire. - Required within 180 Days
  • Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) - Preferred Upon Hire
Travel Requirements
  • Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed. - Required

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

Essential Technical/Motor Skills

  • Detailed knowledge of respiratory therapy equipment and procedure.
  • Good working knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medications and general nursing.
  • Detailed knowledge of specialized equipment used in the bronchoscopy and pulmonary function labs, and blood gas analysis.
  • In depth knowledge in equipment troubleshooting and field repair of equipment.
  • Good mechanical skills in working with equipment.
  • Knowledge of Supervisory and management principles.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Good oral and written communication skills as well as problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

Essential Physical Requirements

  • High level of manual dexterity and able to lift 40# and push 250#.
  • Hearing speech and vision must be adequate to perform essential function of the job.

Essential Mental Abilities

  • Must be at high level to perform essential functions of the job.

Essential Sensory Requirements

  • Hearing speech and vision must be adequate to perform essential function of the job.

Exposure to Hazards

  • Exposure to blood and body fluids.
