The day starts before the first patient
A linear accelerator is checked every morning before anyone is treated: output constancy, lasers, imaging alignment, the door interlocks and the safety interrupts, with physics owning the deeper monthly and annual work. Therapists run the daily set. A result outside tolerance is investigated and the fix scheduled while treatment continues; a nonfunctional interlock or an excessive dosimetry error stops the machine, and a department that loses an hour to one reshuffles the whole list.

- What's the difference between a radiation therapist and a medical dosimetrist?
One plans and one delivers. A dosimetrist builds the treatment plan alongside the physicist and the radiation oncologist, working out how the dose is shaped around the tumor and spared from everything near it. The radiation therapist positions the patient to a fraction of what the plan assumed and delivers it on the machine, day after day, checking setup images and watching for the skin reactions and fatigue that build over a course. Dosimetry is a common next step for therapists who want the planning side, and it takes its own credential and its own training route.

Closer than most imaging-adjacent jobs get. A course of treatment runs daily for weeks, so you see the same people every morning and watch how they're doing across the whole of it. You also see who isn't doing well, over the same weeks.
